Microforms Cataloging Manual

Multiple Version Records on a Multiple Title Reel

If the item in hand is a multiple title reel of film and more than one title can be cataloged using the "multiple version record" approach (i.e., we have the print version of the book in CLIO), do not use the procedure described in the "Filmed with" document. Instead follow the procedures below.

  1. Create a second holdings record for the microform on a book record for the appropriate titles.

  2. Create or use a microform record for the titles that do not have a print version in CLIO.

  3. All of the records will have $z (Filmed with...) in holdings.

    Example:

    MFHD for microform multiple version record.

    852 80 $b mrr $k MICROFLM $h F $i d6643 $z Filmed with other titles; for a complete listing search the call number, omitting the word MICROFLM, using a Call Number Exact search.

    843::$a Microfilm. $b Cambridge, Mass. : $c Harvard University Library Reproduction Service, $d 1990. $e 1 microfilm reel ; 35 mm $n. No. 2 on a reel of 5 titles.

    MFHD for microform only record:

    852 80 $b mrr $k MICROFLM $h F $i d6643 $z Filmed with other titles; for a complete listing search the call number, omitting the word MICROFLM, using a Call Number Exact search.

  4. Create an item record for the title being ordered (or for the first title on a reel in case of approval or gift material).

    As a result there will be multiple holdings and one item record for the item in hand.
