Microforms Cataloging Manual
Original Cataloging of Slavic Materials to be Filmed under the
NEH grant
BACKGROUND
- Some monographs and serials being filmed as part of the NEH Slavic
grant need prospective
original cataloging in OCLC. These records will later be turned into
records
for the microfilm reproductions and will be loaded into CLIO.
- The default level for monographs cataloging is PCC core (Elvl 4).
Full
authority work will be done, including uniform titles for works in old orthography (per RI 25.3A). Records will get a class number in 050 b4 but do not need full cuttering.
PROCEDURES
- Create a record for the original in OCLC using a PR1 session (account
100-100-513; password micro). Code the fixed field for form as a,
input three 007 fields, and include $h [microform] in 245.
- Include a 533 as in the example below. If the original item was in
more than one volume, as indicated by the 300
$a,
give the volumes included on the reproduction in 533 subfield m. Example:
533 Microfilm. $m Vols. 1-2. $b New York, N.Y. : $c Columbia University
Libraries, $d to be filmed in 200_. $e 1 microfilm reel ; 35 mm.
- Add a 583 field:
583 Filmed; $f NEH Project (SCH4); 2005
- Produce the record and update holdings. Do
not download the record to CLIO.
- Use a suppressed bibliographic record with your name in the 100 for
the purpose of adding 948's for automated statistics.
- Print the OCLC bibliographic record. Place the printout with the item
and return
to Preservation.
- Count it on a separate statistics sheet labelled "Slavic grant".
