Daniel D. Tompkins papers, 1795-1819
Daniel D. Tompkins (Columbia A.B., 1795), Governor of New York (1807-1816), member of the New York Constitutional Convention of 1801, the New York Assembly of 1803, was elected to U.S. Congress in 1804, which he left to assume the chair of the New York Supreme Court, 1804-07. He served in the War of 1812 as Commander-in-Chief, N.Y. Militia, and became Vice President under James Monroe, 1817-1825.
