Biographical Note

A charitable foundation, established in 1940 by business exectutive and philanthropist Frank Cohen (1893-1959). It has contributed to cultural and educational projects in both the United States and Israel. Some of its activities have included: ESCO Music Center at Ein Gev, fellowships for composers and conductors at Tanglewood, and vitimins and shelters for British children during World War II.

Scope and Contents

The files contain correspondence, reports, clippings, Board minute books, photographs and ESCO publications. Among the correspondence are Stephen Wise, Theodore Kolleck, Ernest Bloch, and Leonard Bernstein. The collection also includes papers relating to Mr. and Mrs. Cohen's personal (i.e., non-ESCO) Zionist and Jewish interests
