I teach courses on the Modern Middle East, meaning 19th and 20th centuries.
I published a 500 page book with Prentice Hall in 1996 entitled The Modern
Middle East: From Imperialism to Freedom. My book with the University of
Texas Press entitled Islam: Origin and Belief should be released some time
in 1997. I am most interested in the first half of the twentieth century.
The origin of the Palestinian Question, the origin of Arab Nationalism, Iran
under Reza Shah, Iraq under Nuri Said, King Abdullah of Jordan, the rise and
activities of the Baa'th, the Nasser period , particularly in the 1950's,
the Muslim Brotherhood, the factions of Lebanon, and the accomplishments of
the Saud family.
