description of work:

Academic interests:  Sri Lanka Buddhism, healing rituals & social change
(1959-60, 1963); family organization of industrial workers, Jamshedpur,
Bihar (1968-69); overseas South Asians (off and on). Currently part of
joint project on development programmes in Bhil tribal area of Jhabua,
Madhya Pradesh.  Also teach South Asia ethnography. Teaching at University
of B.C. since 1964; director of Museum of Anthropology since 1974.
