Description of Work:
I have been teaching in Deshbandhu College since 1972. I am teaching
modern South Asian History of British colonial rule in India at the
undergraduate level. I also teach Economic History of modern South Asia
during colonial rule at the master level in Delhi university. I have
taught Modern South Asian history at the Dept. of History, Syracuse
University during spring 1994 semester. Currently I am teaching at the
Dept. of History, Oberlin College, Oberlin Ohio. I am teaching three
courses here: Modern South Asia British Imperialism to Independence; Rise
of Nationalism and Communalism in Modern South Asia; and Colonization of
Indian Economy 1760- 1947. I did my doctoral thesis at the Centre for
Historical Studies, Schoolof Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University
in 1984 on the subject of Assam tea plantations and labour force in
colonial India. I can speak Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese and English.
I was a post-doctoral fellow at the Nehru Museum and Memorial Library
between 1983 and 1986. On this fellowship I worked on a project titled:
Culture of Displacement: a study of the Punjabi refugees in
post-Independent Delhi.
