Description of work:

I have taught English Literature at the University of Baroda
(India), mainly of the twentieth century, before coming here to get a Ph.D.
I have done some research on contemporary British poetry before switching
to postcolonial cultural studies with reference to the Indian subcontinent.

I can read Hindi, Gujarati, and Rajasthani.

I happen to be a Hindu by birth and upbringing. My current interest is in
the formation of collective (communal) identities--mainly Hindu and
Muslim--as seen in literature and historiography. Although I am mainly
looking at texts in English, I am trying to get insights from texts in
Urdu (written in Devanagari) and Hindi too.
