My interest is in questions of nationalism, secularism and political and 
cultural identity, particularly Islamic identity and Islamic reform. My 
approach to these subjects is part historical and part philosophical, and 
from the point of view of the perspectives of Marxism. Modernism and 
post-modernism are alternative approaches that I consider in some detail.
