Book of Hours, use of Paris (?) France, ca. 1490. Parchment; ff. 198; 14 x 9.5 cm; 17 miniatures in a style reminiscent of Jean Bourdichon; initials alternating blue and gold; bâtarde script; vertical catchwords. Bound in 16th century French brown calf with covers detached. Notes: The hours of the Virgin are of the use of Paris, but the office of the dead only has 3 readings at matins, so use cannot be determined. The calendar, in French, includes the feast of Yves in red at 19 May. Obtained by D. E. Smith from Barroux. Bibliography: De Ricci, p. 1276. Smith Western MS 20

Book of Hours, use of Besançon France, first quarter of the 15th century. Parchment; ff. 115; 17 x 12 cm; all miniatures missing. Bound in old vellum, in good condition. Notes: Full calendar in French in alternating red and blue with gold for the major feasts, in very bright fresh colors (the "dies mali" are shown by a red letter "d" although there are no month verses); rubrics in French. The litany includes Ferrutius and Ferreolus (principal patrons of Besançon), Antidius, Hilary, Anthony, Deicolus, Columba; added section at the end of the book. Bibliography: De Ricci, p. 1277.
