H. Jessop and Benjamin F. Teal, originally acted at
Proctor's Twenty-third Street Theatre.

8—"Hans the Boatman," by Clay M. Greene, acted for
the first time in America at McVicker's Theatre, Chi¬
cago, 111. It was originally produced at the Theatre
Royal, Sheffield, Eng., March 7,1887. On July 4, same
year, it received its first London production at the
Grand Theatre, Islington, and in April, 1888, was
played in Australia.

9—"On Probation," by Brander Matthews and Geo. H.
Jessop, acted for the first time in America at Powers'
Grand Opera House, Decatur, 111. Was done at the
Elephant and Castle, London, Eng., 5, for copyright

purposes......"The Fairies' Well," by Con T. Murphy,

seen for the first time in New York at the Fourteenth
Street Theatre, Avhen Carroll Johnson made his stellar

nally produced at the Grand Opera House, Columbus,
O.; first in N. Y., Dec. 2, at Niblo's.

16—Margaret Mather played the stellar role in "Gretchen"
at the New California Theatre, San Francisco, Cal.,

for the first time.......Park Theatre, Philadelphia,

Pa., dedicated......."A  Mere  Cipher,"   by Q.  Had-

don Chambers, and "Hubby," by H. A. Sherburn,
seen for the first time in America at the Arch Street

Theatre. Philadelphia, Pa......"A Royal Hand," by

Stanley Wood, originally acted at Fehr's Opera House,
Portchester, N. Y......"Love and Liberty," by T. Mal¬
colm Watson, seen for the first time in America at
Proctor's Theatre, Albany, N. Y.; first in this city, 23,
at the Union Square Theatre. It is another form of
Charles Gibbons' novel, "For the King," dramatiza¬
tions of which had already done service variously as
"Marquis Caporal" in Paris and as "Lady Margaret"
in this country last year, by the Effie Ellsler Co. "The
"Suspect," by Louis Nathal, done at Rochester, N. Y.,
26, is "Lady Margaret" rechristened. It was then
seen for the first time.   First in this city, Oct. 7, at

the People's Theatre......State Opera House, Snokane

Falls, Wash., opened.

at Lowell, Mass......"The Bookmaker," by J. W. Pig-

gott, acted for the first time in America at Powers'
Grand Opera House, Grand Rapids, Mich. It was
originally produced at Terry's Theatre, London Eng.,

19—Herbert Marsde'n made his professional debut at the
Grand Opera House, New Orleans, La., as Bertuccio
in "The Fool's Revenge."

20—"Aramis,  the  Master Mind,"   originally   acted   at

Springfield, 111......Libby Prison, having been taken

from the South to Chicago, 111., opened as a museum.

......"Spider and Fly," by Robert Eraser and Wm.

Gill, originally acted at Taylor's Opera House, Tren¬
ton, N. J. First in New York, Oct. 7, at Harlem
Comique.

22—Abbie Barry and Gus Roach (non-professional) mar-
rien at Baltimore, Md.

23—"Wile for Wife," a revised and rechristened version of
"The Hypocrite," acted for the first time under that

title at the People's Theatre......Handford and Spry

made their American debuts, while Florrie Austin
made her metropolitan debut at Miner's Bowery The¬
atre......The Auditorium, Louisville, Ky., dedicated.

......People's Theatre, Toledo, O., dedicated......Met¬

K. Williams made her metropolitan debut at Bijou in
