An episcopal recommendation of John Bodleigh's
edition of the Bible.
 

[It does not appear that this recommendation was acted upon : as there is no record on the Rolls of the
renewal of the previous licence, which expired on the 7th January 1568. The Bishops' Bihle, of which this
is one of the earhest intimations, was issued in October 1568.]

EIlS'Gr enformed by this berer John Bodleygh that vppon his late sute to
you for the renewing of his privilege with longer tearme, for the reimprinting
of the late Geneva Bihle by him and his associates sett foorthe, you sus¬
pended to give your furderaunce vhtill you had hearde our advise. So it
is that we thinke so well of the first impression, and reviewe of those whiche
haue sithens travailed therin, that we wishe it wold please you to be a
meane that twelve yeres longer tearme maybe by speciall privilege graunted
him, in consideracon of the charges by him and his associates in the first
impression, and the reviewe sythens susteyned. ffor thoughe one other
fepecial hihle for the churches be meant by vs to be set forthe as conuenient tyme and
ley sour hereafter will permytte : yet shall it nothing hindre but rather do moche good
to have diversitie of translacons and readinges And if his licence hereafter to be made,
goe simplye foorthe withowt proviso of our oversight as we thinke it maye so passe well
ynoughe, yet shall we take suche ordre in writing with the partie, that no impression
shall passe but by our direccon consent and advise. Thus ending we commende you to
AHmightie GOD.    Efrom Lambethe this ixth of Marche 1565 [^. e. 1566].
