On the eighth day of October, 1857, the place of ^
meeting was transferred to the room below, on the
second story of the Consistory building. This is the
most agreeable apartment in the whole edifice, and
the one which has always been used for the regular
weekly lectures by the pastors of the Church, the
others being usually appropriated to Sunday school
or Bible class purposes. A sketch of its appearance
at the present time is given in the accompanying
plate.

From the above date to the present time, this room
has been open for prayer at noon every secular day
with one solitary exception,—the great holiday of New
York, New Year's day. The only difierence which
other public days, such as Tlianksgiving day, the
22nd of February, the Fourth of July, the day of the
Atlantic Cable celebration have caused, has been to
give direction to the current and object of prayer.
