Ray L. Trautman has been Professor of Library Service at Columbia
since 1948. During World War II he was Colonel in charge of the Libraries
Branch of the Special Services Division, Army Service Forces, and later
became Vice President and Manager of Omnibook Magazine.

Alfred H. Lane is Supervisor, Gifts and Exchange Division of the Acqui¬
sitions Department, Columbia University Libraries.
