Gifts
A.LG.A. gift. The American Institute of Graphic Arts has sent,
for inclusion in the depository file in Special Collections, the books
of 1967 production which won places in the "Fifty Books of the
Year."
As prey gift. Professor A^'inifred A. Asprey, of Vassar College, has
presented a collection of thirty-eight letters written to Henry
Seely AMiite, Professor of Mathematics at \'assar from 1905 to
1936, by \\'illiam Fogg Osgood, Edward Drake Roe, Eliakim
Hastings Moore, and other distinguished mathematicians.
Bflrzz02 gift. Professor Jacques Barzun (A.B., 1927; Ph.D., 1932)
has added to the collection of his papers eight correspondence files
relating to his publishing and academic activities in recent years.
Bauke gift. Professor Joseph P. Bauke (Ph.D., 1963) has pre¬
sented the following two -works: Johann Gottlob Lehmann,
Abhandbing von den Metall-Muttern, Berlin, 1753; and Armin
Renker, Das Buch vom Papier, Leipzig 119 3 41.
Berol gift. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred C. Berol have presented a unique
historical document, the October 6,1814, issue of The Club (Vtica,
New York), which contains the fifth known printing of Francis
Scott Key's "The Star-Spangled Banner." The poem is printed
under the heading "Defence of Fort M'Henry" and noted as be¬
ing reprinted from The Mercantile Advertiser, a newspaper other¬
wise unidentified. In addition to the Advertiser, earlier printings
of Key's poem include the Baltimore Patriot and Evening Adver¬
tiser, the Baltimore American and Commercial Daily Advertiser,
and the National Intelligencer (Washington, D.C.). The gift also
includes five other issues of The Cluh, a newspaper which was in
