PREFACE.

The fourth edilion of the Great Metropolis now presented to the
public, it is confidently expected, will meet with their approbation.
U has improved wonderfully considering its age; and neither pains
nor expeiKe have been spared on it this year. To strangers visiting
this city, (for it is to tfeem the publisher looks for the sale of a large
proportion of the-editiort.) the best recommendation which can per¬
haps benrsed is to refer them to the advertising pages (where will
be (iiund the carrta of mnny of our first houses,) for the estimation
in which this little work is held where it is best known. The num¬
ber of pages have been increased without any increase of the price.
A still larger edition, containing the British, Canadian, and Havana
Tariff is also ptinted at 51) cents.
