Jerry Doyle
 

An unabashed Hberal and a strong supporter of Franklin Roosevelt's domes¬
tic and foreign policies, Jerry Doyle (1898-1986) was the editorial cartoonist
for the Philadelphia Record and then the Philadelphia Daily News.  Winner
of the 1942 Association of American Editorial Cartoonists' National
Headliner Award, Doyle created the image of'John Q. Public," the overbut-
dened taxpayer wearing nothing but a battel because high taxes had stripped
him of all his possessions, including his clothing. In 1943, a collection of
Doyle's cartoons was published as According to Doyle: A Cartoon History of
World War n.
