books   The Virtual Reading Room Pilot Project

The goal of the Virtual Reading Room (VRR) Pilot Project is to assess the benefits and costs of converting and making available in electronic form the full texts of selected works from Columbia's Core Curriculum syllabus for student study and for use by faculty as supplemental teaching tools in Columbia's evolving online instructional environment. (More information on the VRR project.)

It is important to note that, while older editions of many of the works on the syllabus have long been in the public domain, virtually all of the modern, critical editions selected for Columbia's Core Curriculum are under copyright.  The electronic versions of these texts presented here have been created specifically for the VRR pilot project by permission of the publishers, and their use is restricted to current members of the Columbia Community for the purposes of study, teaching and research. (More information on copyright and licensing issues.)
