Butler Reference Services


     The History & Humanities Division at Butler Library provides a range of reference and research services to Columbia University students, faculty, and staff, as well as visiting researchers.

  • The reference desk is located in the Lawrence A. Wien Reading Room (301 Butler). Please note that reference hours vary from library hours.


  • Individual research consultations with a librarian subject specialist are available by appointment to students and faculty working on long-term projects.


  • Telephone reference is available during reference hours: (212) 854-2241.


  • Group tours of Butler Library and the Reference Collection are given in September and by special appointment. Or, take the self-guided tour.


  • Check out the list of  Library Classes & Workshops offered in Butler.  We also offer research courses for graduate students  (G4000 and G4001) and library research classes for seminars.
