I currently serve as Chair of the Ghana Studies Council.

My first body of published work focused on the Asante nationalist
opposition to Nkrumah in the 1950s (The Quills of the Porcupine.
--Madison, Wisc.: Univ. of Wisc. Press, 1993). I am currently completing a
large project on gender, chaos and colonialism in Asante. Published
portions of that project have appeared in *Gender and History,* *History
Workshop* and the *Journal of African History.* At the University of
Minnesota, I teach the general undergraduate survey in African history, as
well as courses in African women's history. At the graduate level, my
courses focus regionally on West Africa and topically on African social
history.
