Dr. Elisabeth Bekers is Postdoctoral Assistant in English literature at
the University of Antwerp (UA). She holds a Master of Arts in New
Literatures in English from the University of Hull (1995) and was a
Fulbright exchange scholar at Hollins University, Virginia (USA) in
1995-1996.
She is currently preparing the publication of her PhD dissertation
(University of Antwerp, 2002), a comparative analysis of African and
African-American creative writing on female genital excision
(clitoridectomy and infibulation).
In her classes she focuses on rewritings of British classics such as The
Tempest, Robinson Crusoe and Jane Eyre.
She is co-founder of the Postcolonial Literatures Research Group at the
University of Antwerp and Honorary European Liaison of the Graduate
Student Caucus of the African Literature Association.
