Currently I serve as Vice-Chair, Association of African Studies Programs, an
affiliated professional organization of the African Studies Association.
My primary research area is the Igbo (Ibo) Diaspora in the era of the
transatlantic slave trade. As such I have research interests in Nigeria,
Virginia, Jamaica and Cuba. Other interests include the 'Black Atlantic', and
the pioneering anthropologist Melville J. Herskovits (1895-1963).
My courses include Introduction to World History, Survey of African History
1500-Present, Survey of Islamic History, and a graduate seminar in the African
Diaspora.
