Mr. Tjalling Dijkstra is an agricultural economist with interest in
agricultural marketing. He has carried out research in Sierra Leone, Sudan,
Kenya and Uganda. He wrote his Ph.D. thesis on the structure and development
of horticultural marketing channels in Kenya. Since 1998 he has been
involved in research on export diversification in Uganda and Kenya, looking
at non-traditional agricultural exports. In 1999 the commercial edition of
his Ph.D. thesis, "Trading the Fruits of the Land: Horticultural Marketing
Channels in Kenya," was awarded the John Abbott Prize.
