I am working on issues of medical pluralism in Senegal, and more general
issues of health and development in West Africa.  I want to investigate
how social differentiation (caste, ethnicity, education, gender) may be
reflected in patterns of health-seeking behavior and explanatory models of
specific illnesses.  I am also interested in the "localization" of
biomedicine by its practioners.  

I am fluent in French and almost fluent in Wolof and hope to start
learning Pulaar (Fulfulde) next year. 

Anticipate doing dissertation research in Fall of 1998.
