Claire Griffiths teaches French, francophone, and francophone African 
studies at the University of Hull in the UK. Her research in francophone 
African studies is located in the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of 
Slavery and Emancipation (http://www.hull.ac.uk/wise/). 

She publishes in the field of gender and social development, and the 
history of gender policy in colonial and post-colonial francophone West 
Africa.
