I am a natural resource and environmental economist, currently working on
groundwater management projects in Nepal and Pakistan and a dam safety
rehabilitation project in India.
I spent a year at the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal
(1984-85) and was a Community Agricultural Extension Agent with the Peace
Corps in Mauritania (1987-89). I have spent time in Ghana (1992-94). I
have a B.S. and African Studies Certificate from the School of Foreign
Service of Georgetown University (1986) and a Ph.D. from the Department of
Agricultural and Resource Economics of the University of California at
Berkeley (1997).
Last year I participated in a World Bank "quality assurance" review of its
biodiversity conservation projects in Africa, visiting Gabon, Ghana, and
Madagascar.
Starting February 1999, I will be employed with the Africa Environment
Division of the World Bank, working on its regional water resource
management program, including a Nile Basin initiative.
