I have a special interest in Liberia and West Africa in general, as well
as Kenya and Eastern Africa. My research activities have centered on the
roles of peacekeeping forces, such as the ECOMOG forces in Liberia,
although earlier research was focused on the roles of church-related
health promoting institutions in national development.
I was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia (1965-67; Public
Administration), served as the Hospital Administrator of Tumutumu Hospital
near Karatina, Kenya (1969-70), and taught as a Fulbright Professor of
Political Science at Cuttington University College, near Gbarnga, Liberia
(1985-86).
I have developed an interest more recently in southern Africa, especially
Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa, which began when my daughter served as
a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho (Forestry--1996-98).
