I teach African history at Boston University and I am publications
director of the African Studies Center, also editor of the International
Journal of African Historical Studies, published here since 1968. 

As a long-term scholar, I remain interested in African social and economic
history, particularly African women's history and the history of clothing.

My most recent publication is "Changes in clothing and Struggles over
Identity in Colonial Western Kenya,"  forthcoming in Jean Allman, ed.,
Fashioning Africa: Power and the Politics of Dress. (Indiana
University Press, expected 2004).
