I teach Swahili and supervise the Swahili program at UCLA. I also teach a
course on Comparative Bantu. My research interests include Swahili,
Eastern Bantu, Comparative Bantu linguistics, and Historical linguistics.
I am also interested in Swahili poetry and issues related to the Least
Commonly Taught Languages. I am part of the Language Materials Project
team at UCLA which has been developing a database of pedagogical materials
on a selection of least commonly taught languages.
