Former U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone (2004-07).  Lived and worked 20 
years as diplomat and Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, 
South Africa, Nigeria, Somalia, Burkina Faso, and Congo(K) ; Director of 
African Affairs at USIA (1995-97).

Masters degree from Columbia University Graduate of School of 
International & Public Affairs and Ed.D. from Columbia University 
Teachers College.

Interests include African politics, leadership, conflict resolution and 
peacebuilding, and development issues.
