Dr. Imani's scholarly and personal interests are in examining patterns of
continuity in humanity of the African motherland and the diaspora with an
eye towards the use of such research as a means for social, political, and
economic advancement for all members of that collective. He co-authored
The Agony of Education (Routledge, 1996), a study of African-american
students at predominantly Euroamerican institutions. Dr. Imani received a
BSFS degree in international politics from Georgetown University in 1989
and completed graduate work at the University of Florida where he received
a master's degree in political science (1991), and master's and Ph.D.
degrees in sociology (1992, 1995). He has published articles on the role
of Eurocentric psychological assumptions in the Brown vs. Board of
Education decision, Eurocentrism in psychotherapy, the African griot
origins of hip-hop culture, Africentric methodology, and on the social
psychological behavior of African-American students in higher education.
