I have conducted extensive ethnographic research among the Dyula of
northern Cote d'Ivoire. Specific areas of concern include: Islam;
long-distance traders; Mande societies; social organization'; and
generally, ethnography of West Africa.
More recently, I am undertaking research on the place of Africa and
Africans in Enlightenment thought and world-views.
