Chair, Ph.D. Program in Anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center

I am a cultural anthropologist with a 1983 Ph.D. from Columbia University
and studied at the Institute of African Studies.  I work in northern
Nigeria which I last visited in 1995 on a Fulbright about which I am
currently writing a book tenatively titled: "The Obligation of Survival. 
An Ethnography of Crisis and the Crisis of Ethnography in Northern
Nigeria."  My languages are Hausa and French.
