I teach Swahili literature and Linguistics. My research interests are: 
Swahili poetry, especially the pre-twentieth poetry, the use Arabic script 
in Swahili manuscripts, Swahili oral literature, Swahili Islamic 
literature, lexicography, symbolism in Swahili culture and language and 
gender, translation (Swahili-English-Swahili and Kamba-English-Kamba).

I have been a Kiswahili-English-Kiswahili and Kikamba-English-Kikamba 
translation consultant for the Forum for the African Women Educationists 
(seven years), League of Kenya Women Voters (four years), NAP+Network of 
African People Living with HIV/AIDS (five years), Save the Children Fund 
(two years), Kenya Film Cooperation (two years), Kenya Red Cross Society 
(one year), ABB Kenya Ltd (two years), Acarya of the International Society 
for Krishna Consciousness (one year), Nestle(K) Ltd (one year), Ministry 
of Education, Science and Technology, etc.
