Research and teaching Interests: Anglophone and Francophone African
literature, postcolonial literature, African women writers.
Her doctoral dissertation compared the novels of two contemporary African
women writers, Yvonne Vera from Zimbabwe and Calixthe Beyala from
Cameroon. She focuses on the authors' depictions of women's experiences
of sexual pleasure and trauma, exploring the unexpected connection between
these experiences and post-independence questions of freedom and modernity
in contemporary Africa.

Vera's Without a Name," Stichproben: Vienna Journal of African Studies,
