Professor Roberts conducts research, writes, and organizes museum
exhibitions with his spouse, Dr. Mary Nooter Roberts, such as _Memory:
Luba Art and the Making of History_ (1996, that won the College Art
Association's Alfred Barr Award; currently working with Mary Nooter
Roberts on "'Passport to Paradise': Sufi Arts of Senegal and Beyond," an 
NEH-funded exhibition (See: http://www.fmch.ucla.edu/passporttoparadise.htm) and the 
accompanying exhibition catalogue: _A Saint in the City: Sufi Arts of 
Urban Senegal_ (2003) ; doctoral research in Zaire/DRCong, also 
interested in cultural dynamics of the Indian Ocean World.
