I regularly teach a survey Cultures of Africa course, and a course for the
university's Honors Program, Art and Anthropology in Africa. The latter
course is organized as a seminar for a smal group (usually 10) of honors
students and explores the ways in which the plastic and performing arts
are integrated into their cultural contexts. The former is a relatively
standard survey attempting to provide a sense of the importance of Africa
and the range of cultural variation.

My research interests are centered on questions of ethnicity, development
and gender, and have so far been located in eastern and southern Africa.
