I have received an Ambassadorial Scholarship through Rotary International
to study at the Universite de Saint Louis, in Saint Louis, Senegal. I
will leave my current address in late August and travel in West Africa
before beginning my studies in Saint Louis in October 1997. While
studying there for the 1997-1998 academic year, I hope to earn a "maitrise
en francais avec specialisation en litterature francophone." My African
literature background is mostly self-taught at this time, so my interests
are varied.
Some subjects I will continue studying on my own, and at USL: Negritude,
feminism, public education, Wolof, traditional and modern music and dance,
folklore, and francophone literature from West Africa. More broadly: the
Sahel ; l'Afrique noire.
Currently, through my teaching of French Language and Cultures, I try to
introduce my students to the French-speaking worlds located beyond France.
I welcome any correspondance, especially through email before my
departure.
