Activities:
Presently Ph.D candidate in the Centre for Cultural and Media Studies,
University of Natal, Durban, South Africa. Research topic: the analysis
of the structure of hazard in the South African deep-level mining sector,
based on close interpretation (using Peircean semiotics and attribution
theory) of statutory accident inquest records, Truth and Reconcilaition
commission submissions, and various formal statutory records of
investigations into health and safety in mining.
Research interests:
The historical origins in political theory of the various interpretive
discourses involving the concept of Culture. African cinema. The
problematic nature of government in Africa. Women as cultural agents in
developing political environment.
