My area of specialization is economic geography, and my research interests
center on poverty and uneven development in Sub-Saharan Africa. My current
focus is on the impact of international trade and nature tourism on
poverty and inequality in Southern Africa.
In my work I explore how the impacts of globalization can be measured at
multiple geographical scales. In particular, I examine how social and
economic processes interact across space and scale to impact regions,
communities, and individuals. Throughout my work I apply spatial analysis
techniques, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping, and
spatial econometrics. I also employ qualitative methods, including
ethnography and case study research, to complement quantitative findings.
