Primary disciplinary foci are art history and ethnoarchaeology. I have
published on various subjects dealing with technology and material culture
history based on field research conducted in Ghana (1979-80), Cote
d'Ivoire (1987-88), and Ethiopia (1992-present).
Specific interests are concentrated on the interaction of Muslim and
non-Muslim peoples in West Africa, and the evolution of metalworking
technologies (and associated aesthetic systems) among the Akan of
Ghana/Cote d'Ivoire and in the Aksum region of Northern Ethiopia.
