My research interest is the development and significance of Islam, with
special reference to West Africa where I have many years of field work
experience.  I teach African and West Asian history and politics and
modern world history.  While I am a member of the history faculty, I also
teach in the Women and Gender Studies and Ethinic Studies programs.
