Research interests are in wetland hydrology, hydrological modelling and
water resource management, especially in Africa. A large proportion of my
recent research has been on the hydrology of the Hadejia-Nguru Wetlands in
northeastern Nigeria. This has involved the monitoring of hydrological
processes within the wetlands and the development of a hydrological model
of the river basin. This model has been used to formulate and test a
series of options for future water management within the basin. This
research has been supplemented by extensive analysis of flood hydrographs
and the establishment of artificial flood hydrographs for releases from
large dams in order to maintain floodplain inundation.
