Research in West Africa, principally among Twareg (Tuareg) pastoral
nomads (Summer 1974, 1976-1977, 1984-1986), mostly in the region of
Agadez, Republic of Niger.  Research interests include:  pastoralism,
gender relations, ritual, political identity, democratization, and
Afro-Asiatic linguistics.
