My research has pursued two major themes:  comparative African politics,
and the comparative politics of cultural pluralism.  Countries in which I
have in the past carried out field research include Zaire, Uganda and
Senegal.  My major present projects are (1) a successor volume to THE
AFRICAN COLONIAL STATE IN COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE on the post-colonial
state, and (2) policy responses to accommodate cultural diversity (a
global comparison).
