Doctoral dissertation completed at the University of California, San
Diego: "Women, War, and Social Change: The Challenge to Independence in
Zimbabwe," which addresses the tensions between tradition and modernity in
the face of colonialism and revolution.
Activities and publications:
Director of the Center for Cultural and Ethnic Studies.
Work in progress: "From Glorious Revolution to Failed State: Women
Ex-Combatants and Mugabe's Zimbabwe," which addresses Robert Mugabe's rise
to power in the Zimbabwean liberation struggle and his failure to support
the women who helped him win.
Latest publication involves the rise of socialism and the reconfiguration
of political landscapes in sub-Saharan Africa. Other publications focus on
human rights, gender in economic development, and gender and information
technology in sub-Saharan Africa.
