I am co-directing excavations at two late prehistoric sites at Aksum in 
northern Ethiopia.  This is a joint project of Boston University and the 
Oriental Institute, Naples (Italy)

My research and fieldwork deals with the late prehistory of northeast 
Africa: Egypt, Nubia and northern Ethiopia/Eritrea and the origins of 
complex society and the early State in these regions.
