   I am Associate Professor of Turkish Language and Literature at 
Marmara University, Faculty of Science and Letters. I received my 
undergraduate education at Teachers Training College, Ataturk University 
in Erzurum in 1984. I completed my post-graduate education at Marmara 
University, Institute for Social Science between 1985 and 1991.

   My Ph.D. thesis entitled "The reflection of the Balkan War in 
[Turkish] press and literature" outlines the poetry, fiction, personal 
accounts and theatrical productions resulting from the Balkan War of 
1912-1914. The aim of this thesis is to continue the study of Turkish war 
literature, an important component of Turkish literary history.

   My teaching experience started in 1986 when I taught Turkish language 
at the School of Business, Marmara University, Bahcelievler, Istanbul. 
In 1993, I was appointed Instructor of Turkish Language and Literautre 
for Central Asian students at the Faculty of Science and Letters, 
Marmara University, Gozptepe, Istanbul. In 1994, I was appointed 
Associate Professor of modern Turkishs literature at Marmara University. 
I have primarily taught classes in the grammar, reading, and writing of 
Ottoman Turkish.

   Currently I am a Visiting Scholar in the Dept. of Middle East and 
Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University in New York
where I am continuing my research on the history of Turkish journalism.

   I have published articles on Turkish war literature and the history of 
Turkish journalism in "Turk dunyasi arastirmalari", "MU Turkluk 
arastirmalari" and "Muteferrika degisi".
