The Hoover Institution collects archival (original materials, primary sources)
and published materials on twentieth-century history, politics, economics,
military affairs, political and social movements, communism and socialism,
etc. Total holdings of the Hoover Institution Library are approximately 1.7
million volumes, of which 125,000 comprise the Middle East Collection. The
Hoover Institution Archives holds more than 4,500 collections, of which about
200 deal with the Middle East. The collections of the Hoover Institution
Library and Archives are open to use by all scholarly researchers, without
regard to institutional affiliation.
The geographic coverage of the Middle East Collection includes all the Arab
countries, Turkey, Iran, Israel, and Afghanistan, with responsibility for
materials on the Middle East and Islam published in other countries as well.
The collection concentrates on the 20th century. The Middle East Collection
holds materials in Arabic, Turkish (and Ottoman and other Turkic languages),
Persian (and other related languages), and European languages.
Personal information: Librarian. Personal research interests include history
of all Middle East and Central Asia, history of Polish travelers and residents
in Middle East, Middle Eastern and Central Asian travel and travelers, Middle
Eastern politics, Egyptian archaeology and history of ancient Egypt, etc.
