Work: My work is in the area of Arabic and English sociolinguistics where 
my PhD thesis was on language change in 1967 Arab-Israeli war immigrants 
in Damascus, Syria. This work was published in a revised form called : 
"IMPACT OF THE ARAB-ISRAELI WARS ON LANGUAGE AND SOCIAL CHANGE IN THE 
ARAB WORLD: THE CASE OF SYRIAN ARABIC. KUALA LUMPUR: PUSTAKA ANTARA. 
Also there is an Arabic translation of the full thesis unrevised under 
the title: DIRASA FI ILMI ALLUGHA ALIJTIMAI by the same publisher. 
Another two volumes were published in 1994 by the same publisher entitled 
LECTURES IN ENGLISH AND ARABIC SOCIOLINGUISTICS.

I am also interested in Arabic and English language teaching. Towards 
this end I have co-authored a book entitled DRILLS IN ARABIC WRITING AND 
PRONUNCIATION: A COMPARISON WITH ENGLISH AND LANGUAGES OF THE MUSLIM 
WORLD. Published in 1995 by Golden Books Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

I am also interested in the use of English by the Muslim countries. In 
this area, I published a number of works, some of which in book form. 
These are: On Malaysian English 1993, Kuala Lumpur, Pustaka Antara; and 
MALAYSIAN ENGLISH: A SOCIOLINGUISTIC PERSPECTIVE 1994, KYUALA LUMPUR: 
PUSTAKA ANTARA. 

ARABIC/ENGLISH-ARABIC TRANSLATION is an area in which I have keen 
interest in which I published and taught.

Finally I have very strong research interest in the relation between the 
languages of Europe and the Arab world. This work lies in the field of 
linguistic typology.
